Quarantine (Mockumentary)

Today's movie review will discuss about a horror movie which is Quarantine. It is because this film has shown the special techniques to present for all audiences. The theory that they used in this movie is mockumentary.

Theory Discussion 

Mockumentary is a television programme or films that show depicting fictional events but it takes form of a serious documentary. This theory has using a lot of different documentary techniques and modes of representation. Talking about modes of representation, it is kind like genre in the films. According to Bill Nicholas, it is a categories that need to evaluate documentaries as many film maker use these particular techniques selected in order to record or shape the events and how they represent the mockumentary. 

This theory have many different types of modes representation which is Poetic, Expository, Observational, Interactive, Reflexive and Performative. Poetic is for the art films. Expository is for like National Geographic. Observational is like football match. Interactive is like interviewing. Reflexive is the footage is have been recorded. Performative is like of this film. It is because it starlize version of the truth. It representing of subject matter stylistically and expressively. We can see that it just like the real events in this movie but they just create the version of the truth. 

Synopsis

This movie is started when the reporter Angela Vidal (played by Jennifer Carpenter) and the cameraman Scott Pervical (played by Steve Harris) follow the firemen to an apartment block to check what is happening inside. It founds out that the aggressive old woman has bitten a policeman and killed many people. The incident happened is because a dog have infected and turned them in sort similar like rabies. Many residents had turned into zombies except Jake, Angela and Scott. Jake was bitten is because of finding the basement key. When they were investigating the basement, the noise from a man that they unaware. The camera was drop and Scott was bitten. In the end of this movie, Angela was scare and dragged screaming into the darkness

Analysis

We can see that many techniques that they use in the movie. However, how is Quarantine this movie use different documentary techniques? It employs some techniques which includes Reflexive. It means that it remind audiences that they are watching the film event. It also provides more valuable views of the issue at hand. For example, from the beginning of the video to the end the of the film, we can see that is kind like the footage that have been recorded and collected by the authorities to make other things but of course it is not true. It just the version of the truth. The camera movement in this movie is very shaky as it shows the realistic of the in this film. 

Moreover, Interactive is one of the techniques that they use in this movie. It means that to let the people speak the truth. It also can manipulating the person thinking but phrasing in different way like the styles of this movie can use in interview way. For instance, the entertaining impromptu interviews of the various fighter in locker rooms, shower and in the pole section but in the funny way. Also, the second scene was when Angela interview the girl in the apartment to speak the truth but we can see that the girl are have been sicked and her mother behind was worried about her. Furthermore, the next techniques of using in this movie is Observational. The films of thus mode observe and record as the events untold in real time, it use long takes and sound is recorded directly to makes this film without manipulating and it call as direct cinema. For example, the camera was taken by Scott for the news report to record in very long take and he just record the scene until the of the movie to show what is happening of this case. In the end of the movie, the camera was dropped and is not moving. One is the man eating Scott and the another scene is when Angela was dragged screaming into the darkness.

Conclusion

In this horror film, they use mockumentary techniques to show the version of the truth. It can feel the realistic of this movie. I think that because of this realistic of this movie, I almost believe that the zombies were really exists in this world. Overall of this movie, I also think this movie is quite great to watch.

In this movie review I would like to discuss about the animation movie named Corpse Bride. This movie is directed by Mike Johnson and Tim Burton. The theory that they use is about German Expressionism. This theory that have been used in nowadays life. German expressionism has the themes that included revolt, self-analysis, madness and primitive, sexual savagery. This theory had start in within first world war which is in year 1919 to 1926.
