Today, in this movie review I will like to discuss about this movie called Paranorman. This movie have show us their creativity and even can makes us laugh. It contains a lot of genres that have been mixed and it is called hybrid genre

Theory Discussion

What is hybrid genre? It meanings that bend the classification of films, thus integrating two or more film genre. We can say the films have mixed genres. Back to the sixties, we have a theory that are appeared which is called postmodernism. The meaning of this theory is the tendency to be anti-modernism. They constituting critical analysis on structuralism, ideology, gender and it promotes reflecting stands on socials, political and cultural agendas and resonances. It always questions about the existing knowledge that we have learned. 

Postmodernism has some characteristics which is simulation and prefabrication. The types for the simulation is pastiche. For example, Black Panther movie which has the scene when the main character are mentally go inside the the purple forest and saw many black panthers. This scene is similar to the movie called The Lion King when rafiki's ancient tree scene is similar to Black Panther movie. (Terry Carter, 2018) The another types of the simulation is parody. They usually take from the previous scene or work and styles try to ridicule them. For instance, The Starving Game is one of the example parody movie. It includes they make fun of The Hunger Games, Avatar, Avengers and many more. However, this movie is very unfunny and the critics are even worse. (Kirsten Acuna, 2013)

The next characteristics of the postmodernism is the prefabrication. It means that the movie scenes that reused from the previous film such as The Guardian of the Galaxy. This movie have contains a lot of classic pop music from the 80's and many more. Types of prefabrication which is intertextuality. For example, the Superman first movie in 1978 and Superman Returns have many referenced text which is in Superman Returns. It has similar scene form the the first movie. Next, bricolage was also the another type of prefabrication. It is the artwork that are do it yourself and it's called "DIY"which includes the genre bending and hybrid genre. For example, the hong kong movie that named "My Left Eyes Sees Ghosts" have the genre mixing with horror and comedy. It has some vivid colours and fresh performances that become the reason that this movie become one of the greatest genre bending movie. (Angeliki Katsarou, 2016) The hybrid genre in the bricolage section such as the movie called Colossal which has comedy-drama and kaijuor fantasy genre. (Kevin Ding, 2017) We can see that there are many mixing genre in a film so that the audience will get surprise, interesting and will have different expectation for every films. 

In a film, I think that every genre must combine both components which is semantic and synatics approach. It is because every elements that I have talked about is very important. Without these elements, it will not be a good movie to watch. 


Synopsis

The story starts with a boy called Norman Bobcock and he has ability that he can see all the ghosts and spirits on the town.  He met a friend named Tucker . One day, there is a uncle ghost in the school toilet that find him to tell him to find the book carry message of the witch. His bully guy named Alvin are steel the book and making Norman can't break the curse. At the same time, a weird cloud coming and all the zombies from the grave are alive. The zombies stop them and tell them that they are not hurting people, they just regret and help him to break their curse. The witch is finally came and try to suffer him as she have suffered. But he wants to help her so he tells the story of her and broke the curse. The witch became a little girl and named Aggie. The story ends with when his dead grandmother and his family watch the movie. 

Analysis

The semantic can be complimented with the syntactic and the approach works. It is because of visuals of this film are match for this film's themes. The hybrid genre of this film is horror and comedy. It has mixing the two different genre and mix it very well. This kind of genre have been became trending on these days. Their location have sets at the grave yard so it can tells that this is the horror genre and also the costumes are some black shirt or dark colour shirt so the audience know that they are matching with this films. For the actors behavior, we can see that they are frighten when they see the zombies. At the beginning of this film, we thought that the zombies and the witch is the bad one but at the end they become the kind one. The hero of this movie is Norman. 

Conclusion

There is a lot things that we have learnt in this movie. However, the important thing is without the one of the element such us syntactic and many more,  it will produce a good movie. The audience will know that there is missing in the film. So every time we produce, we need to think twice before we do and put all the elements inside the films and it will be perfect.

In this movie review I would like to discuss about the animation movie named Corpse Bride. This movie is directed by Mike Johnson and Tim Burton. The theory that they use is about German Expressionism. This theory that have been used in nowadays life. German expressionism has the themes that included revolt, self-analysis, madness and primitive, sexual savagery. This theory had start in within first world war which is in year 1919 to 1926. It started from the paiting and change to film productions and it also spread into the cinema in narrative and mise-en-scene. In this movie review, I would like to fall backward to the old times, old movie which is the Italian movie named Ladri di biciclette. In the English name is Bicycle Thieves.
